The Paper Plane is a modern classic with Chicago roots. Created by bartender Sam Ross at Chicago’s 2000s cocktail mecca, The Violet Hour, the cocktail was developed as a modern riff on the prohibition-era Last Word. Ross's equal parts recipe combines bourbon, lemon, Amaro Nonino, and Aperol (essential for color). We predictably like ours a bit more whiskey-forward, and in the service of hometown pride and taste, we called in Chicago's Amaro Cinpatrazzo to provide the bitter component.
1.5 oz Judson & Moore Bourbon
1 oz Aperol
.5 oz Amaro Cinpatrazzo
.75 oz lemon juice
lemon twist (optional)
Add bourbon, lemon juice, Aperol, and Amaro Cinpatrazzo to a shaker with ice, then shake until well-chilled. Double-strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
